Most clean energy technologies don't fail in the lab. They fail at scale.

Berbetin helps investors, manufacturers and developers see that failure coming — before the capital is committed.

20+ years across the entire solar value chain — materials to gigawatt manufacturing to bankable deployment — now extending into space, BIPV and agriPV.

Verónica's path is unusual by design — from fundamental research in academia, to co-founding a deep-tech start-up, to leading applied R&D and gigawatt-scale industry. Having worked every link in the chain is what lets her connect the science, the factory and the finance.

Across the whole solar value chain

Most advisors know one slice. The edge is seeing the full value chain, across the different innovation and technology deployment players - academia, applied R&D, deployment, manufacturing - where a choice at one becomes a failure three stages later

1

Materials & devices: CIGS, perovskites, tandems ....

2

Cells & modules: record-efficiency thin film solar cell; closing the cell-to-module gap

3

Manufacturing at scale: technology leadership at ~ 1.5GW fab

4

Deployment & systems: system integration, BOS, hybrid power

5

Reliability & degradation: soiling, degradation, field performance, bankability

TRL tells you if it works. SRL tells you if it scales - and if it gets financed

We assess technologies against the Scale Readiness Level (SRL) — a framework that looks past lab performance to the things that actually determine industrial and financial success: manufacturing readiness, system integration and balance-of-system constraints, reliability and degradation, and alignment with what investors, lenders and insurers require.

Rooted in solar — where the proof runs deepest — the SRL method applies across clean energy, from storage to hydrogen to carbon capture.

Berbetin is led by Dr. Verónica Bermúdez, a physicist with more than 20 years at the intersection of clean energy technology, manufacturing, and investment. Uniquely, she has worked across the entire solar value chain — from materials and device design, through gigawatt-scale manufacturing, to field reliability and bankable deployment. She has:
•    Served as Acting General Manager of the technology division at Solar Frontier (Japan), a ~1.5 GW thin-film solar manufacturer, where her teams delivered world-record thin-film efficiencies and transferred lab innovations onto pilot and fab lines.
•    Built and directed the Energy Center at QEERI (Qatar) from the ground up — a 40+ person applied-research hub, $4M+ in external funding, and ISO certification and laboratory accreditation established from scratch.
•    Been a founding team member at at the deep-tech start-up NEXCIS (France), scaling CIGS technology from lab to pilot and securing €18M in European industrialization funding.
•    Conducted technical due diligence and techno-economic and bankability assessments at EDF R&D.

Her expertise is grounded in real-world constraints: yield learning, process robustness, system integration, balance-of-system trade-offs, and reliability under operating conditions. While her foundation is in photovoltaics, her work extends across energy storage and hydrogen, and into emerging PV applications — building-integrated and agrivoltaic systems, and space.
Today she advises infrastructure funds, manufacturers, developers and public institutions, and serves as an expert evaluator for Horizon Europe, the Innovation Fund and the EIC. She holds a PhD in Physics (Extraordinary Prize) and the French Habilitation to Full Professor, has published 120+ papers including in Nature and Science, holds 5 patents, and was named R&D Leader of the Year at the 2022 Women in New Energy Awards.

She works in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
